| Specific environmental model (WP6) |
|
Introduction Main task of the Work Package “Specific Environmental Model” is the implementation of potential Air Quality Benefits following to the logistic new concept deriving from a cluster of specific pilot project. To promote a significant environmental modeling evaluation it is schedules elaboration about emissions per single TEU trip, in order to measure the effects of modal split related to new rail services of each planned pilot-projects, in specific areas. Main goals are following:
The positive environmental impact generated by each planned pilot project is the basic criterion to define the sustainability of pilot projects in Transitects. The start up activity is the linkage with WP4 and WP5 (technical assessment of accompanied and unaccompanied new rail services) to define and select technical parameters, also by integrating modelling evaluation implemented in previous “Alpine Space” project regarding polluting emissions and environmental impact of transport in the Alps. This is a methodological innovative approach forecasting an integrated analysis regarding emission dynamics of different ways of transport (maritime system included).
Methodology
For the assessment and calculation of pollutant emissions of Pilot Projects of the new rail services was used algorithm T-ENV Model (CSST – Centro Studi sui Sistemi di Trasporto). T.ENV Model is the specific emission modelling system selected by MATTM (Italian Ministry of Environment and territory and sea protection-Ministero dell’Ambiente e della tutela del territorio e del mare) to evaluate emissions generated from transport activities in Alpine and Carpathian area projects (“AlpCheck, “AlpenCors”, “Alpfrail”). Model estimate (local and macro-area level) emissions from vehicles of main atmospheric pollution, (NOx, PM10, etc) and gasses (CO2), Transport energy consumptions (gasoline, diesel, GPL), Noise. The input of environmental model are the results of the transalpine transport simulation model (zoning with 1034 centroids deriving from AlpenCors Project), the unit emission in each vehicle typology and territorial data in different country. The model of interaction of the transport system simulates the way in which the application uses the system to offer producing flows on the arcs of the network that represents it. The transport system model is characterized by congestion, with a circular dependency between demand, flows and costs (Volume delay function). In particular, the demand for transport is influenced by the time value (translated into costs) in the different dimensions of choice (frequency, destination, type of vehicle and route) flows depend on the demand and how it uses the network and costs, turn, depend on the flows on the arcs of the network in a non-linear due to congestion. Main functional parameters of Mt model (transport model) are:
Results of T-Env are estimation of gasses and pollutants in a specific area. Modelling system can be used to calculate the emission due to traffic on a transport arch more close to the receptor (local contribution) or that one originated from all vehicles sources in the air (areal contribution). The goals of this Work Package are:
