Reinhard Schretter, president of the Federation of Austrian Industries accuses the government in Vienna of neglecting the western part of Austria. Decision-makers in the Tyrol are outraged at the delay in the Brenner Base Tunnel project. They think that the government’s delaying tactics and hollow promises will have a bad impact on the federal state’s future.

“Buzzwords used by politicians, like for example qualification, growth, long term viability and high-tech location lose their credibility, if projects standing for these terms are questioned,” says Platter.

He criticises politicians for being disoriented and for making great announcements during the past decades without carrying their plans through.

“Another delay in the Brenner Base Tunnel project would imply that a huge chance for the whole Alpine region is being ignored. The project boosts employment and economy and it is a means to improve routing, which is at present inefficient. We need to act now,” says Schretter, recommending an immediate debate between the Tyrol, Bavaria and the Provinces of Bolzano-Bozen and Trento.
