The second tube of the Tauern Tunnel was opened last Thursday. The new tube is supposed to relieve traffic especially during summer. Austrian Transport Minister Doris Bures and other high representatives attended the inauguration ceremony, as the Austrian Press Agency APA reports. The opening of the second tunnel eliminates the last bottleneck of the important North/South transalpine route on the Tauern Autobahn in Austria (A 10). Especially during summer travel season traffic jams were known to reach lengths of up to 40 km infront of the tunnel.
